José Manuel Martínez, CEO of Eiffage Energía, on the CMM (Castilla La Mancha Media) programme ‘En Profundidad’

Eiffage Energía’s expansion at global and national level, day by day, is a growing reality. Over the years José Manuel Martínez, CEO of Eiffage Energía, has given many interviews to discuss the progress and projects of the company.

The company with head office in Albacete is the protagonist of the latest ‘En Profundidad‘ reporting programme of Castilla-La Mancha Media television on current events in our region.

More than half of the energy produced in Castilla-La Mancha is renewable energy. We are the leading community in installed photovoltaic power with nearly 1,000 MW installed, and we are among the first 3 communities in solar, thermal and wind power. These data are amplified with renewable energy projects thanks to the latest government auctions totalling 8,000 MW, whose deadline for project implementation (December 2019) will involve a major input from the construction companies.

Specifically, in the province of Albacete alone there are 14 new projects for the construction of solar and wind plants to increase the production of renewable energy in the Community. It is the leading province in wind power with 2,000 MW installed, representing more than 50% of the total installed in the region and it is the second or third in photovoltaic energy in installed capacity, according to the provincial director of Economy, Employment and Enterprises.

According to the latest data from Red Eléctrica (Spanish Electrical Network), the percentage of renewable energy in the region is much higher than that which is produced in the whole of Spain. Castilla-La Mancha is an energy exporter, i.e. it generates twice as much energy as it consumes. Thus, 50% of the energy consumed in Madrid is generated in C-LM through windmills or wind turbines.

In turn, the strength in the renewable sector has a very positive influence on job creation in C-LM companies. Currently, at Eiffage Energía we have 850 people working in Castilla – La Mancha. From there, the projects that we are contracting at national, regional and provincial level and also all activity in renewables that the company has mainly in Chile, Peru, Mexico and Jamaica are looked after. Just as Jose Manuel Martinez, CEO of Eiffage Energía says, it is thanks to the whole team of engineers responsible for the phases of development, engineering, construction and material implementation of the works.

Research, business development and the involvement of government administrations are the key factors for clean energies to compete on an equal footing with other energies that are more polluting and of greater social cost. José Manuel Martínez, CEO of Eiffage Energía, states that “much more competitiveness has been gained from these installations and the reality is that now they are fully competing with the rest of traditionally generated energies such as nuclear energy, thermal energy, coal, etc.”.

In Castilla-La Mancha there are 139 wind farms and 2,984 wind turbines installed. Wind power constructed in CLM is of 3,807MW, of which Eiffage Energía is responsible for a total of 2,193 MW. This represents a share of about 60% of the total wind energy installed in the region.

The renewable energy sector forms one of the main business lines of the company to combat climate change and develop cleaner energy for the planet.
