Eiffage Energía Sistemas ends 2023 ranked among the leading companies in its sector in Spain.

The Eiffage Energía Sistemas Group ended 2023 with a turnover of 933 million euros and a workforce of 5,000 employees. As such, the company, with its head offices in Albacete, where it stands as the largest company, is ranked 294th among the 2,000 highest-grossing companies in Spain, making it one of the top companies in its sector. 2023 has been a notably active year for this subsidiary of the French Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, which is on a continuous growth path. The energy market remains highly dynamic, fuelled by the electrification of resources, energy performance, and Europe’s reindustrialization.

In this context, Eiffage Energía Sistemas has successfully seized new opportunities presented by photovoltaic energy, electric vehicle charging stations, and the energy transition, showcasing its exceptional ability to adapt to these new challenges.

Safety and Sustainability

Safety will remain paramount for the company. 2023 came to a close with outstanding occupational accident rate data, indicating positive progress thanks to the reinforcement of its preventive culture.

On the sustainability front, it should be noted that Eiffage Energía Sistemas has calculated its group-wide Scope 3 carbon footprint for the first time since last year. This reaffirms its dedication to lowering both direct and indirect emissions.

As part of its multidisciplinary approach to all areas of sustainability (social, governance, and environmental), the company is fully engaged in developing its Sustainability Plan. It is making progress with defining the action plan after identifying the material issues, risks, and goals, as a route map to be integrated into the Strategic Plan.

Renewable Energies

As we have previously mentioned the new opportunities offered by photovoltaic energy, it should be noted that Eiffage Energía Sistemas has built over 1GW. Prominent projects in 2023 include Ballestas and Casetona, 74MW, in Revilla Vallejera, Burgos; Belinchón and Escuderos, 390MW, in the province of Cuenca; Villarino, 50MW, Iberdrola’s first photovoltaic project in Salamanca; and El Tomillar, 16MW, in Las Anorias, Albacete. In wind energy, the Segura I and II farms, totalling 78.05MW, will annually supply 51,290 homes and prevent the emission of over 69,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. Self-consumption facilities also merit attention. For instance, the Cosentino rooftop with 17MW; and projects outside Spain like Vale Da Pedra, 12MW, Vendas Novas 9.9MW, and Mafra 4.3MW in Portugal, or the 132 MW Fundación photovoltaic farm in Colombia, representing the country’s most significant project.

Maintenance and Electromedicine

In this business unit, it is worth highlighting the strong presence of this area nationwide, covering all areas of activity in the tertiary sector. It employs over 1,000 people in maintaining more than 15,000 buildings, including hospitals, offices, shopping centres, unique buildings, universities, airports, etc., in both the public and private sectors. Highlights include the integral maintenance of the National Centre for Oncological Research, hospitals in Aranjuez or Castellón, several hotels in the AC chain, the FAN Shopping Centre in Mallorca, Multimap, and AENA airports in Andalusia. In Electromedicine, over 500,000 technical interventions are carried out annually, servicing over 400 hospitals, clinics, medical centres, and 300 health and speciality centres. Through the Electromedical subsidiary, significant projects have been implemented, such as 10 X-ray and radiology rooms in the Valencian Community and portable ultrasound equipment has been supplied to the Murcian Health Service. Finally, the Biomedical unit works for Mutua Universal, Fremap, the Quirón group and SAS.

Operation and Maintenance

In the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) sector, Eiffage Energía Sistemas has reached a total of 5GWp and was awarded contracts for an additional 2.3GWp for upcoming years in 2023. Noteworthy achievements include the nationwide photovoltaic plant panels cleaning service for Enel Green Power; the upkeep of Iberdrola’s solar farms across eastern and western Spain; the operation and maintenance of Statkraft’s Arcos cluster photovoltaic plants in Cádiz; as well as the operation and maintenance of Repsol’s Kappa photovoltaic plant in Ciudad Real.

Electrical infrastructures

Over 150 projects were initiated in the Electrical Infrastructures area, involving more than 450 direct and indirect workers.

The projects predominantly focused on power evacuation infrastructures associated with photovoltaic plants and wind farms. Examples include the Underground High Voltage and Evacuation Line at La Herrada Photovoltaic Solar Park in Montealegre del Castillo (Albacete); the 132 KV Quadruple Circuit High Voltage Overhead Line from Barajas de Melo Substation to Belinchón Substation in Belinchón, Cuenca; and the Belinchón Junction Substation at 400/132/30 KV.

Installations and Networks

In this area, Eiffage Energía Sistemas carried out more than 1,000 projects in 2023, more than 60 of which were in the field of energy efficiency. This business line accounts for 50% of the total turnover of the Eiffage Energía Sistemas Group.

Notable projects in this sector include fibre optic channelling in Levante; the Mercadona Logistics Centre in Portugal, developed by subsidiary Inelbo; the Endesa Building in Borbolla, Seville; hospitals in Málaga and Teruel; the Watson Tower facilities; and the award of a contract for the refurbishment of a portion of Sareb’s residential assets.

In the Networks area, emphasis should be placed on the renewal of nationwide framework agreements that the company has maintained for years with Spain’s leading electric companies, the completion of Metro de Madrid’s global data processing centre (DPC), and the improvement of medium voltage electrical infrastructure for various DPCs in Spain.

Eiffage Conscytec: Sustainable construction

In construction, Eiffage Energía Sistemas, through its subsidiary Eiffage Conscytec, is pioneering a new sustainable construction business model. In 2023, it delivered its first low-carbon housing projects for Vimusa, including developments of 21 and 32 homes in Sabadell. Additionally, two new groundbreaking low-carbon construction projects were initiated: a Coliving space for Batipart in Madrid, certified Passivehaus, and a public housing development in Formentera featuring sustainable, low-carbon materials and construction methods.

Control systems

This area is working on an efficient control system to improve the impact in terms of the number of KG of CO2 that are discharged, by managing electric vehicle charging points and the interaction with photovoltaic systems.

A total of 135 projects were completed in 2023. Highlights include the electrical control system in logistics blocks; the control and monitoring system in Retail, covering over 200 centres; a control system for a nougat (turronera) factory in Alicante; and the system implemented for the Gerena Quarry in Seville.

Outlook for 2024

The year 2024 is set to be equally dynamic for the Eiffage Group in France and Europe, with a comprehensive business portfolio featuring major photovoltaic projects in Spain, and an emphasis on low-carbon and digital solutions to closely align with customer expectations.

Of note is the fact that Eiffage Energía Sistemas is slated to build a total of 1.3 GW of solar plants and 350 MW of wind farms in Spain, plus 200 MW of solar plants in Latin America and 150 MW of solar plants in the rest of Europe.
