Eiffage Energía Sistemas has successfully completed the energisation of the Shangri La solar plant. The farm, which has just been opened, is one of the largest photovoltaic projects in Colombia, developed for Atlas Renewable Energy.
Located 15 kilometres from Ibagué, the capital of the department of Tolima, the farm has an installed capacity of 200.6 MWp and represents a milestone in the country’s energy transition.
The 18 months of Project implementation involved the installation of more than 328,860 photovoltaic modules, 7,830 solar trackers and over 878,000 metres of electrical conductor, in an ambitious deployment of engineering, civil works, electrical and mechanical installations.
Social impact and employment
The construction of Shangri La created an average of 604 jobs, reaching a peak of 934 workers at key moments during the project. In addition, various community initiatives were promoted in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- Training programmes in local schools on waste management and recycling.
- Courses on the prevention of heatstroke and the promotion a healthy diet.
- Donation of recycled materials to a women’s association in the region.
Commitment to the environment
Environmental measures included the removal and protection of wildlife in the area of influence, and circular economy initiatives were implemented with the delivery of reusable materials to the community.
Start of operations
The park began energising its first subfields in July 2025. It reached full energy injection on 15 September 2025, achieving full commercial operation on 15 November, following the completion of the testing period and final works.
With Shangri La, Eiffage Energía Sistemas reinforces its position as a key player in the development of large-scale renewable projects in Latin America, contributing to the promotion of clean and sustainable energy in Colombia.
