New benchmark centre for the care of people with Alzheimer’s, built by Eiffage Conscytec, officially inaugurated

The President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, has inaugurated the Reference Centre for the Care of People with Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias in Albacete. The project was executed by Eiffage Energía Sistemas through its construction subsidiary, Eiffage Conscytec.

The event was also attended by the Regional Minister for Social Welfare, Bárbara García Torijano; the President of the Provincial Council, Santiago Cabañero; and other institutional representatives; as well as members of the Association of Relatives of People Affected by Alzheimer’s (AFA) in Albacete; and representatives from Eiffage Energía Sistemas, including the director of Eiffage Conscytec, Asensio Rodríguez.

A benchmark project

The President of Castilla-La Mancha highlighted Eiffage Conscytec’s “impeccable execution”, positioning the project as a national benchmark.

With an investment of around 4.4 million euros funded by European Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) funds, the new centre becomes the region’s largest specialized facility for Alzheimer’s, designed to improve the quality of life of people affected by this disease and their families.

The centre represents a firm commitment to excellence in personal care, combining contemporary design with the necessary equipment to guarantee the highest level of care and therapy.

The President of Castilla-La Mancha praised Eiffage Conscytec for its flawless execution. Covering more than 3,000 square metres, the Alzheimer’s Reference Centre in Albacete will cater for 100 people at the day centre and features three dedicated areas for therapy, research, and association activities.

The ground floor concentrates the most frequently used spaces: two activity rooms, a multi-purpose room, and a space reserved for meetings and small-group dynamics, alongside the occupational therapy and recreational activities room. Completing this floor is a dedicated area for meeting with family members, a space designed to maintain emotional bonds as part of the therapeutic process.

On the first floor, the centre features a spacious dining room with a kitchen and a 100-square-metre gym dedicated to physiotherapy and rehabilitation. In addition to these spaces, there are high-value complementary services for service users: a hairdressing salon, podiatry, and healthcare, addressing personal care in all its dimensions.

Finally, the top floor houses a relaxation room of over 200 square metres, a spacious and peaceful environment where service users can recharge their energy throughout the day.

Commitment to sustainable construction

Sustainability is a non-negotiable principle in every Eiffage Conscytec project. From the construction phase through to the building’s operation, every decision seeks to reduce the carbon footprint and maximize energy efficiency.

During project execution, priority was given to using materials from local suppliers, thereby minimizing transport emissions and supporting the local economy—two key criteria in modern sustainable construction.

In terms of energy efficiency, the building incorporates an aerothermal system featuring two units that produce hot and cold water for climate control via fan coils, complemented by five ventilation units with heat recovery systems that harness exhaust air to reduce electricity consumption.

Domestic hot water is generated via solar thermal panels, while a gas boiler acts solely as an occasional backup, reducing dependence on fossil fuels to a minimum.

A 50 kW photovoltaic system covers more than 50% of the building’s total electricity consumption, establishing it as a benchmark in energy self-consumption. Furthermore, five charging points for electric vehicles round off a comprehensive proposal aligned with the Eiffage Group’s emissions reduction targets for 2030.

This project, one of the most cutting-edge in Spain, sets a new benchmark for Eiffage Conscytec in the social and healthcare sector, and reaffirms the Eiffage Energía Sistemas Group’s commitment to a construction model that places people at the heart of every decision.
