Eiffage Energía Sistemas has completed the façade refurbishment works at the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital, one of the main reference hospitals in the Community of Madrid.
Promoted by the Regional Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid through the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS), the works involved a comprehensive energy efficiency upgrade and architectural renovation with a budget of 11.8 million euros.
A project executed without disrupting healthcare delivery
One of the main challenges of the project was to carry out the works without affecting the daily operation of the hospital, ensuring the continuity of healthcare services at all times.
This required exhaustive planning and close coordination among all teams involved, adapting the works to the needs of a hospital environment in continuous operation and minimising any impact on patients, staff, and visitors.
Key interventions
The works carried out included:
- Installation of a new ventilated façade on the main building, covering an area of over 40,000 m².
- Replacement of 2,300 windows and renewal of metal joinery, ensuring the continuity of hospital activity at all times.
- Restoration and conditioning of the façades of the complex’s secondary buildings.
- Restoration and conditioning of the façades of the complex’s secondary buildings.
- Rehabilitation and upgrading of the canopies on the Outpatient Department building.
Comprehensive hospital maintenance
The execution of these works adds to the ongoing collaboration that Eiffage Energía Sistemas has maintained with the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital since 2022, when it assumed the comprehensive maintenance of the systems for the production, storage, and distribution of water for heating, cooling, domestic hot water, and steam for sterilisation.
This service also extends to two specialty centres, healthcare centres, and sheltered housing linked to the hospital, and includes the operation as well as the preventive, corrective, and statutory maintenance of the complex’s thermal plant.
A multidisciplinary project serving sustainability
This intervention was developed by the Central Zone’s Refurbishment and Renovation Department, in coordination with the Maintenance and Electromedicine areas of Eiffage Energía Sistemas, strengthening internal synergies and the group’s multidisciplinary technical approach.
Beyond the architectural renovation, this intervention improves the building’s energy performance, enhances the thermal and acoustic comfort of its facilities, and contributes to advancing the energy efficiency and sustainability targets promoted by the European Union.
