Eiffage Energía Sistemas takes part in the transformation of IFEMA and Valdebebas for the 2026 Spanish F1 Grand Prix

Eiffage is reinforcing its position as a key player in major infrastructure projects and international events through its involvement in the construction of the new F1 circuit in Madrid, as well as the extension of Halls 1 and 2 at IFEMA Madrid, which will house the new Pit Building area for the 2026 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix to be held in Madrid.

The project is currently progressing through various execution and transformation phases across the IFEMA Madrid and Valdebebas site, as it prepares to host one of the major international fixtures on the sporting calendar.

The construction of the circuit is being carried out by a joint venture comprising Acciona and Eiffage Construcción, while the extension of Halls 1 and 2 at the exhibition centre is being undertaken by Eiffage Construcción.

In the words of José Manuel Martínez, CEO of Eiffage Energía Sistemas and Country Manager for Eiffage in Spain and Portugal: “The Eiffage Group’s involvement in the construction of the new Formula 1 circuit (Madring) reflects the value of our internal collaboration. Combining Eiffage Construcción and Eiffage Energía Sistemas enables us to deliver end-to-end solutions for highly complex infrastructure, bringing innovation, efficiency, and safety to a project that will place Madrid among the leading international benchmarks.”

Scope of works at the IFEMA halls

The scope of works includes the construction of two new buildings to extend the existing halls, alongside the installation of temporary structures to house team garages, logistics facilities, and VIP areas during the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix.

Once the race has concluded, the temporary installations will be dismantled, and the expanded halls will serve as permanent additions to the exhibition centre.

Topography and project tracking using drones

To maintain a continuous, precise, and up-to-date overview of construction progress, our drone team is carrying out a weekly topographical survey programme across the IFEMA Madrid halls and the track layout associated with the 2026 Spanish F1 Grand Prix.

To achieve this, automated mission flights are planned and executed specifically to capture high-precision LiDAR and photogrammetric data with optimized longitudinal and transverse overlaps. These operations are pre-coordinated with IFEMA’s security team and the relevant aviation authorities, ensuring full compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements.

Flights are conducted using drones equipped with RTK/PPK positioning systems supported by ground control points (GCPs), achieving centimetre-level accuracy. The periodic capture of georeferenced data ensures consistent and continuous monitoring of site evolution, enabling the technical team to rigorously track progress, earthworks, and terrain modifications across all project phases.

Comprehensive installation of the F1 circuit at IFEMA

Furthermore, the Eiffage Energía Sistemas Group is responsible for the execution of all Pit Building MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) infrastructure required to adapt these spaces to the demanding standards of a top-tier competition like Formula 1.

Las actuaciones que lleva a cabo el Grupo Eiffage Energía Sistemas incluyen:

  • Low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical installations.
  • Lighting systems.
  • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems.
  • Fire protection installations.
  • Telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Building Management System (BMS) for centralized control.
  • Plumbing and drainage installations.
  • Fire protection installations.

Fire protection for the Pit Buildings

The Eiffage Energía Sistemas Group, through its subsidiary Proteknia Fire, is responsible for the full fire protection installation—a safety project with high technical demands meeting the highest quality standards, where every system counts toward securing an infrastructure destined to become an international benchmark.

The works currently being executed include:

  • Manual and automatic fire detection systems.
  • Fire hydrant network.
  • Fire sprinkler network.
  • Pre-action system in the pit lane area.

Electrical infrastructure for the F1 circuit at IFEMA

The Eiffage Energía Sistemas Group is also participating in the design and execution of the medium- and low-voltage infrastructure for the MADRING Formula 1 circuit, as well as its lighting.

The scope of these works covers:

  • Design and engineering of the comprehensive MV and LV power solution for the circuit, as well as the lighting systems.
  • Execution of two prefabricated surface transformer stations, each equipped with two 630 kVA transformers using SF₆-free switchgear in a bidirectional ring configuration, integrated into IFEMA’s MV network.
  • Deployment of underground medium-voltage lines for the electrical ring between IFEMA substations.
  • Installation of low-voltage lines supplying the circuit’s lighting control centres and various power outlets for grandstands and IFEMA temporary structures.
  • The system has been engineered for remote operation from a central control desk, monitoring alarms and proactively anticipating potential events on the network and equipment.

Efficient, safe, tailored, and high-value technical solutions

The design of the buildings and both the circuit’s electrical infrastructure and general facilities has been conceived to be fully communicable, flexible, and durable over time. Incorporating leading technology brands, the system allows for the integration of future solutions, endowing the installation with high technical value while guaranteeing efficient, safe solutions tailored to the operational requirements of both the circuit and Pit Building, coexisting seamlessly with IFEMA’s day-to-day operations outside Formula 1 events.

Commitment to strategic projects

With this intervention, the Eiffage Group once again demonstrates its technical capability, multidisciplinary expertise, and commitment to highly complex strategic projects, contributing to the development of key infrastructure that establishes Madrid as a premier international event host.
