European Energy Week looks to the consumer

Power to the Consumer is the leitmotiv with which started yesterday 13 June the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), being held until next 17 June and that, as its theme indicates, this year focuses on the consumer as a key agent for achieving change in the current energy models, in the search for energy efficiency and compliance with the environmental challenges for 2020.

Thus, the consumer is presented, during this week of celebrations, as the accelerator of the European transition to a clean, efficient and safe energy. This is something that can only be attained when having the close cooperation of institutions in investments for infrastructure and the necessary support for an effective collaborative consumption, to facilitate the use of renewable energy.

Furthermore, Power to the Consumer also seeks to integrate and empower consumers in renewable energy projects, opting for the citizens’ consensus to bring them to fruition and reducing the impact of bureaucracy so common to local authorities.

Finally, another of the key aspects for which this campaign is held is the innovation in market and financing models that help and encourage promoting investment in this type of sustainable energy.

In addition, European Energy Week, which is organised by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises (EASME) with the collaboration of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission, will feature several activities for the public, such as conferences on sustainable energy, networking events and awareness workshops on energy efficiency, all taking place during those known as Energy Days .

The highlight of the EUSEW is, however, the presentation of the EU Sustainable Energy Awards, which recognise innovation in energy efficiency and renewable energies and that are awarded on 14 June, during a ceremony.
