Students of the Technological University of Chile visit the Quilapilún Solar Park

On 24 October, a group of students from the Studies Program of Electronic Engineering from the Technological University of Chile (INACAP), made a tour of the installations at the Quilapilún Solar Park.

The 20 students who visited the photovoltaic installation, located in the municipality of Colina belonging to the Metropolitan Region, were able to get to know the construction stages of the plant, the assembly and everything that comprises the laying and assembly of the electrical discipline.

The creation of Eiffage Energía Chile in 2013 responded to the growing international expansion of the company. Specialising in the implementation and management of energy projects, civil works and construction, it offers a 360 º servicewhich covers and includes all phases of the project.

The Quilapilún Photovoltaic Plant is one of the largest in Latin America, with an overall budget of more than 130 mm USD. It has 350,000 photovoltaic modules and achieves an output of 110 MW, which can generate 242 GWH of energy per year. This allows achieving the elimination of more than 125,000 tons of CO2 per year. The solar plant is connected to the Central Interconnection System (SIC), which makes clean energy available in the central area of the country.

But Quilapilún Solar Park is not Eiffage Energía Chile’s only big project in the Latin American country. In the Atacama Desert, the area of greatest concentration of solar radiation on the planet, is the Javiera Photovoltaic Park.

This installation, located in the driest desert in the world, has 228,160 photovoltaic panels on an area of180 hectares. Since the first quarter of 2015, it supplies energy to the SIC. Also in the Atacama desert, in the municipality of Sierra Gorda, is a booster substation of 33/220 KV and a high voltage line of 40 km and 1×220 KV.

In Copiapó-Atacama there is the San Andrés Photovoltaic Plant, one of the world’s largest commercial solar photovoltaic plants. With a budget of over 11 mm USD, this plant has 200,000 solar panels and 50 MWp on trackers.

Another of Eiffage Energía Chile’s interesting projects is the Punta Palmeras Windfarm in the municipality of Canela, in the Quoquimbo Region. There can be found the 15 most powerful wind turbines operating in Chile.

The Crucero Photovoltaic Solar Plant, is in the municipality of Maria Elena, in the Antofagasta region. It has 240,640 panels on an area of185 hectares.  Furthermore, the  solar plants of Chapeana and Mollacas are located in the Coquimbo region, near the town of Ovalle. These plants have more than 19,000 panels of 350 WP and a joint capacity of 6 MW.

The development and the implementation of all these projects not only strengthens the presence of Eiffage Energía in Chile, but confirms the growing expansion and presence of our company at international level. Therefore, Eiffage Energía now has more than 25 offices in Chile, Spain, Peru and Mexico.
