Eiffage Energía Sistemas is launching its latest Health and Safety Week from June 8th to 12th. This annual event is a key fixture across the group, aligned with the calendar of our parent company, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes. The initiative takes place simultaneously across all regional offices, headquarters, and project sites nationwide.
Under this year’s slogan, “Understanding the Root Causes of Error,” the company is focusing on human behaviour through the lens of workplace neuroscience. The goal is to analyse how the brain functions in real-world operational scenarios and how various cognitive factors influence safety-critical decision-making.
This initiative, well-established on the corporate calendar, aims to reinforce the organisation’s safety culture, ensuring employees consciously and effectively embed safety principles into their daily routines.
José Manuel Martínez, CEO of Eiffage Energía Sistemas and Eiffage’s representative in Spain and Portugal, opened the week’s proceedings. In his address, he emphasised a clear objective: “To ensure that every worker returns home in the same condition as when they started their day”.
He also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to occupational risk prevention, stating, “Worker safety is a strategic priority for Eiffage Energía Sistemas. Consequently, we invest continuously in specialised training, preventive innovation, and cutting-edge personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain the highest safety standards across all operations”.
Juan Pablo Valverde, Director of Occupational Risk Prevention, also highlighted the vital role of the preventive resources and tools provided to the workforce, describing them as critical barriers against workplace accidents. “Every detail, no matter how small, makes a difference,” he noted.

A week to reflect on the human factors influencing safety
The programme features a comprehensive agenda of presentations, workshops, group activities, and awareness-raising initiatives. These are specifically designed to address the risks associated with human factors and “invisible risks,” as well as substance abuse and distracted driving.
Led by the Health and Safety Department, this initiative will involve the entire workforce and will take place simultaneously across all the company’s workplaces.
Key highlights include three interview-driven videos featuring a neurosurgeon, a Civil Guard officer, and professionals from Proyecto Hombre (Spanish non-profit organisation dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of substance abuse and other addictive behaviours). These diverse perspectives will help participants analyse the impact of risky behaviours both on-site and in their personal lives.
Additionally, the company is partnering with PrevenControl, a consultancy specialising in occupational health and safety management. Their experts will address “invisible risks”—seemingly harmless behaviours that can lead to incidents, such as overconfidence, rushing, routine, and distractions.
The facilities in Alcalá de Henares, Paterna, Albacete, and Sant Boi will host sessions by the Civil Guard focusing on road safety, specifically looking at distracted driving and the consumption of alcohol and other substances.
The campaign also features collaborations with local police forces, the Construction Labour Foundation, and mutual insurance societies for occupational accidents and illnesses.
This dedicated week underscores Eiffage Energía Sistemas’ ongoing commitment to health, safety, and the continuous improvement of the workplace. The ultimate goal remains absolute: to drive towards zero accidents and embed a robust culture of prevention across every tier of the organisation.
Safety is not merely about regulatory compliance; it is a core value that connects, protects, and drives sustainable growth.
