Jávea Town Council has awarded Eiffage Energía Sistemas the contract for the project to improve energy efficiency and upgrade the street lighting system in the Cansalades-Umbría and Villes del Vent residential areas, within the municipality of Jávea (Alicante).
With a budget of close to 490,000 euros, the project has a planned execution timeframe of six months from contract signing.
Scope of the improvements
The Villes del Vent residential area currently has a mixed public lighting system featuring three types of lighting technology. The installation includes 629 recessed wall-mounted luminaires with 11 W energy-saving bulbs, 196 high-pressure sodium and mercury vapour light points on 4- to 5-metre columns, and 41 75 W and 150 W metal halide floodlights at roundabouts and in traffic areas.
The upgrade adapts the technical solution to the characteristics of each area. On the 8-metre-wide roads, the staggered wall-mounted fittings are being replaced by units on 4-metre poles in a unilateral arrangement, with 24.4 W LED luminaires.
On the 14-metre-wide roads, the existing staggered layout is maintained with a 25-metre spacing and 16.5 W LED luminaires. The 19-metre-wide road increases its spacing from 12 to 24 metres using 22.4 W LED luminaires, while the entrance boulevard retains its bilateral layout at 14-metre intervals with 11.7 W models. In all cases, the chosen technology is 3000K LED.
Energy efficiency
According to project data, the upgrade is expected to reduce the installation’s electricity consumption by 85%, down from 272,595 kWh per year to just over 31,500 kWh. In practice, this means the residential area will consume nearly nine times less energy to illuminate the same streets.
The street lighting upgrade in Villes del Vent, Jávea, goes beyond simply replacing luminaires. The projected outcome is an installation that consumes nearly nine times less energy and generates annual savings of over 59,000 euros in maintenance costs.
