Eiffage Energía Sistemas has completed the construction of the photovoltaic complex Sonnedix Covatillas 1, 5 and 6, an ambitious project by Sonnedix, an international leader in renewable energy production, with an installed capacity of 150 MW, which was opened on 4 June. The complex is spread across three plants in the municipalities of Minglanilla, Graja de Iniesta and Puebla del Salvador (Cuenca).
This is part of the ongoing collaboration with Sonnedix, following the success of the project Sonnedix Betierra (also 150 MW), which was launched in November 2024 and also executed by our Eiffage Energía Sistemas in the province of Cuenca.
A key project for the energy transition
The Sonnedix Covatillas 1, 5 and 6 complex is equipped with state-of-the-art technology:
- 274,260 Astronergy bifacial modules
- 3,680 Gonvarri dual axis solar trackers (2V)
- 126 Sungrow brand inverters
- 150 MVA substation of our own with Hitachi technology
- 132 kV evacuation line connected to the Minglanilla substation
It is estimated that it will produce 298,500 MWh annually, which is enough power to supply more than 71,000 households and will prevent the emission of more than 108,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
Environmental commitment and local development
During the execution of the project, Sonnedix, together with Eiffage Energía Sistemas, has applied strict sustainability measures:
- Livestock troughs
- Restoration of dry stone walls
- Creation of water reservoirs for amphibians
In addition, more than 200 direct jobs were generated, in which we prioritised the hiring of local companies and workers, thus contributing to the economic development of the region.
Expansion in Castilla-La Mancha and national leadership
With this new complex, Sonnedix now has 67 operational plants in Castilla-La Mancha, adding 458 MW in the region and more than 1,260 MW in Spain, within a global pipeline that already exceeds 10.8 GW.
At Eiffage Energía Sistemas, we are proud to continue participating in projects that drive the energy transition, enhance the use of clean energy and contribute to a more sustainable future.
