Eiffage Energía Sistemas is set to commence works on the grid connection and hybridisation of the Duquesa Solar Photovoltaic Plant, a Sonnedix project that further strengthens the commitment to renewable generation and energy storage in the Valencian Community. Located within the municipal boundaries of Onda and Alcora, in the province of Castellón, the project marks a further milestone in the delivery of advanced infrastructure designed to integrate clean energy into the electricity network.
New STM Sanchís substation for Iberdrola (i-DE)
As a fundamental component of the grid connection system, Eiffage Energía Sistemas is delivering the new 132 kV STM Sanchís remote-controlled switching substation, which will feature:
- Three circuit-breaker bays in a 132 kV single busbar configuration
- Independent access directly from the public highway
- Infrastructure fully compliant with current regulations for handover to the electricity utility, Iberdrola (i-DE)
- Remote operation from the i-DE Control Centre
- A new 20 kV underground line and transformer station connected to the local distribution network to supply auxiliary services for this new substation.
The substation is located less than 50 metres from the existing “Corral del Cuervo – ST Vallat” line, optimising its integration into the grid.
BOS delivery of the Duquesa Solar Plant
Eiffage Energía Sistemas will deliver the photovoltaic plant under a BOS (Balance of System) scope, including the supply of mounting structures and BOP systems, ensuring a fully integrated solution that maximises operational efficiency and reliability.
With an installed capacity of 25.3 MWp, the plant will make a significant contribution to renewable energy generation in the region.
Hybridisation project: 24.4 MW / 70 MWh battery storage
The project also incorporates battery hybridisation — a strategic infrastructure designed to enhance grid stability and expand the management capacity of the energy produced.
Under a BOP scope, Eiffage Energía Sistemas is delivering a 24.4 MW / 70 MWh energy storage system, enabling the facility to:
- Store surplus solar generation
- Dispatch energy flexibly
- Reduce peak demand
- Increase the plant’s operational efficiency
The combination of photovoltaic generation and energy storage positions this installation as a next-generation asset, aligned with European energy transition objectives.
Driving the energy transition in the Valencian Community
Through this development, Eiffage Energía Sistemas continues to consolidate its role as a key player in the construction of renewable infrastructure and advanced storage systems, delivering comprehensive solutions for clients such as Sonnedix.
The Duquesa project will further strengthen Castellón’s energy capacity, accelerate decarbonisation, and contribute to the development of facilities that ensure a more sustainable and reliable electricity supply.
