French Media Delegation Visits the Belinchón Solar Photovoltaic Plant

Last Wednesday, we welcomed ten French journalists to the Belinchón PV Plant for a visit organized by the Communications department of our parent company, Eiffage. The delegation was able to experience first-hand one of the most significant EPC projects developed by Eiffage Energía Sistemas in the field of renewable energy.

The visit was led by José Manuel Martínez, CEO of Eiffage Energía Sistemas and Eiffage’s representative in Spain and Portugal, who was accompanied by Sylvain Bescond, Technical Director of the Renewable Energy division. During the meeting, management outlined the company’s strategic vision, technical capabilities, and key initiatives across its various business areas, with a particular focus on the development of renewable energy projects.

Special emphasis was also placed on the company’s BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) projects, which are considered crucial for ensuring the integration, stability, and sustainability of the grid, both now and in the future.

Belinchón: A Flagship EPC Project

During the presentation and subsequent site tour, Bescond outlined the core features of the Belinchón solar power plant and its substation.

The 150 MW Belinchón solar plant—built by Eiffage Energía Sistemas for Elawan Energy and operational since 2023—joins the 240 MW Villanueva de los Escuderos solar plant, also located in the province of Cuenca. Both projects represent a significant commitment to advancing renewable energy within the region.

These large-scale EPC projects encompass both substations and transmission lines. Approximately 950 professionals were involved in their execution, alongside a substantial team from the Mechanical Assembly department.

Together, the two plants generate enough energy to supply roughly 120,000 households annually, preventing the emission of approximately 300,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year.

We are currently responsible for the operation and maintenance of the solar power plant and the substation.

The tour also included the substation developed under a separate EPC contract, which was designed to transmit energy to Red Eléctrica de España and serve the Belinchón Solar Park. This infrastructure boasts an installed capacity of over 1 GVA.

Considered the second most important energy hub in Spain, this outdoor substation complex plays a strategic role in transmitting renewable energy, primarily from solar and wind sources.

Eiffage Energía Sistemas is currently responsible for the operation and maintenance of both the photovoltaic plant and the Belinchón substation.

The French journalists’ visit spanned two days, during which they also visited IFEMA to view the progress of the Formula 1 project currently being undertaken by Eiffage Construcción and Acciona. On this project, Eiffage Energía Sistemas is responsible for the design and construction of the circuit’s medium- and low-voltage infrastructure, as well as its lighting system.

Through initiatives of this nature, Eiffage Energía Sistemas once again demonstrates its technical expertise, multidisciplinary experience, and commitment to delivering highly complex strategic projects that advance vital infrastructure.
