Electrification of bus depots for the buses of the Compañía del Tranvía San Sebastián (CTSS)

Electrificación de cocheras

Our subsidiary EDS will be charged with the electrification of the bus depots for the bus fleet of the Compañia del Tranvía San Sebastián (San Sebastian Tramway Company – CTSS. We are carrying out this project in a joint venture with the company Altuna y Uria S.A.

This project will enable the inclusion of new 100% electric buses in the service.

Purchase of 20 electric buses

As part of this project, CTSS has also recently agreed to purchase 20 new 100% electric buses from MAN TRUCK & BUS IBERIA, S.A.U.

Specifically, 14 12-metre 100% electric buses and six 18-metre 100% electric buses are planned to be in service by the end of 2023. This purchase is part of a contract that will allow up to 48 additional buses with these characteristics to be purchased over the next four years. This will enable the continuous renewal of the fleet.

Project characteristics

The planned installation starts at STR Egia, where our customer Iberdrola Distribución will install a new facility to power the new electrical installation at DBUS. To do this, it is necessary to install new conduits underneath a public road to distribute the new medium voltage connection to the Metering and Distribution Centre and the transformer substations stations.

These Transformer Substations will be used to supply the chargers with all of their energy needs, and will be fitted with four 2,500 kVA medium/low voltage transformers.

Electrical distribution

These four transformers will supply the control and protection switchboards in each zone where the protections are located. Electricity will be distributed to the different areas of the building from these switchboards over copper cable laid on PVC trays.

Each planned charger will have its own exclusively assigned connection and protection from one of the proposed low voltage general switchboards.

It is necessary to install a metal structure on the roof of the building to support the different pantographs of the electric chargers. A structure has been designed to support the pantographs; the PV distribution trays; cabling; installation accessories; and even a future roof and a possible photovoltaic installation on the upper part, or an extension of the structure itself to cover the entire roof level.
