On Monday, 23 March 2026, the Cathedral of San Juan in Albacete became the setting for a historic moment for the city: the inauguration of its new exterior decorative lighting. The event was attended by local and regional authorities, as well as representatives from the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, and brought together numerous local residents on the main steps of the cathedral.
The initiative was made possible thanks to an agreement between Albacete City Council, the Diocese and the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, which contributed €150,000 to equip the cathedral with a modern, efficient LED lighting system that is also environmentally friendly.
Eiffage Energía Sistemas led the project implementation, contributing its full expertise in energy and technology solutions. Our CEO, José Manuel Martínez, took part in the lighting ceremony, alongside dignitaries including the Mayor of Albacete, Manuel Serrano; the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page; the Bishop of the Diocese, Ángel Román; and the President of the Iberdrola Spain Foundation, Jaime Alfonsín Alfonso. Following the lighting ceremony, the delegation moved to the Museum of Knives and Cutting Tools for an official address.
We would like to express our gratitude to all the teams involved, who have worked tirelessly to complete the project in record time. Thanks to their efforts, Albacete Cathedral now has spectacular lighting, reinforcing its prominence in the urban landscape and highlighting its heritage and symbolic value, as well as honouring the city’s patron saint, the Virgin of Los Llanos.
With this project, Eiffage Energía Sistemas reaffirms its commitment to innovation, energy efficiency and the enhancement of the historical heritage of cities.
