Major energy transitions require top-class professionals behind them. At Eiffage Energía Sistemas, nearly 300 female engineers are involved every day in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of critical infrastructure for the energy transition.
Their presence in the company has doubled in less than a decade, rising from 144 professionals in 2016 to 290 today. This represents significant progress in a sector where women continue to be underrepresented and where technical talent is essential to tackling the energy challenges of the future.
To mark International Women in Engineering Day, we want to focus on the people making this progress possible. Women who lead projects, manage teams, drive innovation, and help develop some of the most prominent energy infrastructure in Spain and Europe.
Patricia, Sandra, Verónica, Laura, and Sonia represent a generation of female engineers who are helping transform the sector across fields as diverse as renewable energy, sustainability, construction, high voltage, and operations and maintenance.
Their career paths demonstrate that engineering is, above all, a profession driven by knowledge, dedication, vocational passion, and the ability to solve complex challenges.
Female talent at Eiffage Energía Sistemas
In less than a decade, the Eiffage Energía Sistemas Group has achieved significant progress regarding equality within the technical sphere: the number of female engineers in the company has doubled, rising from 144 in 2016 to 290 today. This evolution reflects a firm and sustained commitment to equality and inclusion, positioning Eiffage Energía Sistemas as a benchmark in a sector where female representation in engineering roles remains a minority.
On International Women in Engineering Day, this figure is much more than a statistic: it is the story of nearly 300 professionals who, every day, contribute their talent and vision to building a more diverse, innovative, and equitable energy sector.
To mark this day, five of the Group’s female engineers sat down to discuss their careers and share their first-hand experiences: their beginnings, the challenges they have faced, the achievements they are most proud of, and the message they would pass on to young women considering following in their footsteps in engineering.
Patricia Royo Cervelló holds an Industrial Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), with a specialization in Construction from the ESTP in Paris. She brings over 10 years of professional experience in the construction, energy, and sustainability sectors. She began her career at Eiffage Construction in Paris, working in the estimating and design department and later as a site manager responsible for coordinating and supervising MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) packages. For over five years, she has been part of the Sustainability and Cross-Functional Innovation Department at Eiffage Energía Sistemas.
Sandra Sánchez Bravo is an industrial engineer. She started her career in the photovoltaic sector in September 2014, joining with no prior experience and taking the opportunity to train as a site manager. During her early years, she worked on projects in the United Kingdom and Mexico before joining the development of Núñez de Balboa in 2018, one of Europe’s most iconic solar PV projects.
In 2020, she transitioned to the Engineering Department, where she continued developing projects across Spain. Since 2024, she has served as Head of International Photovoltaic Project Engineering for Europe, leading the technical development and coordination of projects across various markets on the continent.
Verónica Cano Morote is an electrical engineer with nearly ten years of professional experience in the renewable energy sector. Before specializing in this field, she worked in Industrial Inspection and Control, a phase that enabled her to acquire a solid technical foundation and a practical understanding of engineering.
She subsequently focused her career on solar PV project development and grid integration, participating in projects across Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Ireland. Furthermore, she holds C2-level proficiency in English, allowing her to work regularly in international environments and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from various countries.
Laura Fuente Martínez is an industrial engineer. Her career began in 2004 with an internship at Iberdrola Renovables, where she was involved in production management and control for the Albacete and Cuenca Wind Farms.
She joined Eiffage Energía as a Comprehensive Maintenance Site Manager, coordinating comprehensive facility maintenance works in commercial buildings and offices.
From 2018 to the present day, she has held the position of Head of Electrical Substation Operation and Maintenance Services at Eiffage Energía Sistemas, overseeing maintenance contracts for substations belonging to Iberdrola Distribución, as well as high-voltage installations and substations for clients in the renewables sector.
Sonia Montero Dueso studied Public Works Engineering and earned a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering Planning and Management, combining her academic studies with her professional role as a site manager.
She began her career path with an undergraduate internship in the Renewable Energy Studies Department under the supervision of Verónica Cano, followed by a postgraduate internship at an engineering consultancy firm.
Since 2021, she has served as a site manager at Eiffage Conscytec, gaining experience in both industrial and building construction projects. Key initiatives in her portfolio include the ENJOY WELLNESS Sports Centre and the energy refurbishment of the Buen Suceso Socio-Cultural Centre.
The stories of Patricia, Sandra, Verónica, Laura, and Sonia reflect an increasingly prevalent reality in the energy sector: talent knows no gender.
Behind every project, every facility, and every technological milestone are professionals who bring knowledge, commitment, and innovative capacity. And an increasing number of women are helping to lead this transformation.
